Hermosa Beach reconsiders higher height limits, reduced parking requirements

Height limits and parking, two of downtown Hermosa Beach’s oldest, most contentious issues. were debated anew for over two hours by the Hermosa city council at its November 25 meeting.
The subjects surfaced in response to a city staff recommendation that the council approve a wide ranging, 34-page Downtown Core Revitalization Strategy report.

Downtown Hermosa Holiday Sidewalk sale

Hermosa merchants hosted a holiday open house and sidewalk sale on Saturday, November 22. Shops along Pier and Hermosa avenues participated in a scavenger hunt for the kids. Gum Tree and Gum Tree Kids welcomed special visitors from the North Pole and many stores offered holiday specials along with free refreshments.

Stories of Hermosa veterans plaques rediscovered

Until this past Veterans Day, Sgt. Charles Bebus, Staff Sgt. David Stanley, Captain Richard Halpin and Lt. Larry Stevens were just names on bronze plaques in the the flower garden surrounding the Hermosa Beach Veterans Memorial Sun Dial. The four plaques had been found scattered around town and moved to the memorial in 2009. But by then, the stories behind the names had been forgotten.
