Look! Optometry not only helps people see well, it helps them look great too, with an impressive selection of 1,500 eyeglass frames, and the Best of the Beachunerring eye of dedicated optometrist Lester Silverman.

“Sometimes it’s a sixth sense, I look at the person and go right to the frame, and that will end up being the one they come back to,” he said.

“It has to be a good fit for them, a good color, the right material,” Dr. Silverman said. “We take into consideration what they do for a living, how often they will wear the frames, all of that.”

“I do probably 10 examinations a day. Each person is carefully worked with and given the best care. It’s not like the big box store where they say, ‘Here’s your prescription, go buy glasses out there,’” Dr. Silverman said.

An interactive Eyeglasses Guide on Dr. Silverman’s website allows prospective customers to do extensive virtual window shopping before they come into the office, matching the user’s face shape, vision challenges, lifestyle and work habits with frame styles.

A long list of designer frames found at Look! includes celebrity favorite Coach, glamorous Gucci, edgy Prada, Versace, Dior, , Michael Kros and Dolce & Gabbana, with its distinctive and prominent D&G logo.

Dr. Silverman was quick to credit much of Look!’s customer satisfaction to a carefully trained staff that “knows what do to help the patient.”

Silverman sees hundreds of patients each year in Look!’s upscale, modern office, equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment, located near the Shade Hotel in downtown Manhattan Beach.

He specializes in comprehensive eye examinations, eye disease diagnosis and treatment, screening and analysis for LASIK, laser and refractive surgery, eyeglasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, and visual therapy.

“It’s a whole ocular approach,” he said.

Each patient is different, from the child whose vision blurs while reading to someone who needs specialty contact lenses for sports or for dry eyes, a common irritation that can be treated in numerous ways.

“We’re always trying to be prepared, and continue the education in ways which best help the patients,” he said.

Dr. Silverman routinely conducts emergency eye exams as well.

“Just in the last week or two a woman came to see me with a retinal detachment, and I had to find [an ophthalmologist] who was available to see her on a Saturday,” he said.

His website contains a comprehensive guide to the varying kinds of eyeglasses, information on the latest eyeglass technology, and information on how to use insurance to pay for optometry services.

Dr. Silverman is actively engaged in the community, and believes that is part of a well-rounded professional life.

He has served as a commissioner of parking and public improvements for the City of Manhattan Beach. He belongs to the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, Manhattan Beach Rotary Club, and was a member of the 2006 class of Leadership Manhattan Beach.

Dr. Silverman has served as the Manhattan Beach School Board’s liaison for one of the elementary schools, and has been a corporate sponsor of the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation. He also is a PTA member.
