The Manhattan Beach Sand & Surf S.C. Boys U-13 team won the Brea Kick-Off Classic marking the first ever tournament win for the local team. In four games, Sand & Surf outscored opponents 18-1. Aquatics

The OptimisSport Distance Swim Challenge will be held Saturday beginning at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The 12.6-mile swim consists of eight legs, each 1.2 to 2.4 miles in length, and ends at the Santa Monica Pier. At the end of each leg, participants must swim to the beach and check in with medical staff. For those not ready to conquer the full 12.6 miles, there will be competitions in three other distances: 4.8-miles, 2.4-miles, and 1.2-miles. Teams will be able to compete in an eight-stage 12.6-mile relay or a four-stage 4.8-mile relay. Fitness

  Velocity Sports Performance will be holding a Nutrition Clinic for Youth on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 7-8 p.m.  Learn the Top 10 Habits to Fuel for Performance.  Also learn key foods, build strategies for the day and/or weekend tournaments.  Discover the most important 20 minutes to eat.  Athletes 8-17 years old with parent(s) are encouraged to attend.  The cost of the seminar is $10/family and Free for Velocity Members.  Register by calling Velocity at 310-297-9001 or email; southbay@velocitysp.com.

The second Skechers Pier-to-Pier Friendship Walk will take place Sunday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. The 3.4-mile walk from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back will benefit the El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach and Torrance Education Foundations, along with The Friendship Circle — an organization devoted to helping special needs children. The City of Hermosa Beach presents the Fall Pier-to-Pier Walk/Run Saturday, Nov. 13 beginning at the Hermosa Beach Pier at 7 a.m. Fees are $25 per runner until Saturday, Oct. 23 ($35 after). Volleyball

Team Complete Athletes (TCA) Volleyball offers programs from the developmental level to national elite college prep training for girls ages 10 to 18.  TCA has multiple locations in Southern California, including the Hangar Athletic Xchange, 3203 Jack Northrop Ave. in Hawthorne. Younger girls will be placed on teams depending on skill level.  Older ages will compete for spots. Plans start as low as $150 per month with flexible payment options. Basketball

Celebrating its 30th season, the Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball League is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 10th grade. Fees are: $115 for first player; $100 for second; $90 for third. Mandatory tryouts begin Saturday. For more information, call 310-372-BALL.

The Prank Monkey coed flag football on the beach tournament is back for its annual random draw event on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. All individuals are welcome and no experience is necessary. All teams will be picked at random, playing a minimum of two games. The cost of the tournament is $25 per person. Pre-registration available at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach. To ensure even teams, please sign up with an opposite sex co-entry. The Smackbowl Men’s and Women’s Flag Football Tournament on the Beach returns Saturday, Nov. 13 at 10th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Teams created in advance by captains, 5-on-5 (maximum of 10 players per team) begin play promptly at 10:30 a.m. The cost of the tournament is $160 per team via pre-registration only at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach, or online at www.hermosabch.org.
