About Town

Pancake women

The 19th annual pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Woman’s Club of Hermosa Beach, one of the town’s most popular events, is 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Clark Building, 861 Valley Drive. Proceeds are poured into the club’s philanthropic efforts.

Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, juice and coffee are all for $8, or $15 for two people, or free to children under 2. The event includes a Chinese auction, silent auction, face stenciling and a jump house for the kids.

For the vets

Something Hot will perform a free “Legacy of Valor” concert for military veterans and active duty personnel 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave.

The group has entertained veterans with free concerts at Veterans Administration-affiliated events.

Before the show, a fundraising dinner will be held across the street at 705 Restaurant for the World War II Veterans History Foundation. Proceeds from the dinner will help fund a film featuring interviews with World War II veterans, which will be donated to the Library of Congress. Film footage will be shown before the concert.

The nonprofit World War II Veterans History Foundation works to preserve memories and experiences of men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces from 1941 to 1945. For more see legacyofvalor.org. ER
