Torrance Memorial a collaborative effort

Torrance Memorial’s new Main Patient Tower is scheduled for completion in 2015.

Demand for healthcare is escalating, driven largely by hospital closures and an aging, growing population

Torrance Memorial Medical Center is poised to meet the needs of its growing community with the construction of a new seven-story, 256-bed patient care tower. It is scheduled for completion in 2015. As we look to the future, it is clear that we are at a critical juncture. Demand for healthcare is escalating, driven largely by hospital closures and an aging, growing population. Our new Main Patient Tower focuses on future needs. Featuring the latest in hospital design, it will greatly increase effective bed capacity for our community and enable us to deliver an advanced level of patient safety and care.

Throughout our eight decade history, Torrance Memorial Medical Center has been dedicated to being a first-class community hospital, spurred by a common vision shared by our community, physicians and hospital staff. We’ve developed an environment that’s physician-friendly, fiscally-conservative and stable, and have nurtured a staff devoted to compassionately serving our patients. We continually ask, ‘How can we improve the quality of care we deliver?’

While there have been numerous changes in the healthcare industry, we are committed to the medical center’s five core values: 1. Excellence (in high quality care); 2. Stability (doing what’s best long-term for the organization and the community); 3. Knowledge (about the care we deliver); 4. Service (to all with whom we interact); and 5. Community (being a valuable community resource). Building on that foundation we continually seek improvement in the care we provide by adhering to a “Quality Caring Model of Care.”

In addition, our responsibility extends beyond patient care. We make a big effort to improve the health of our community by providing nearly $40 million in programs and services to South Bay residents. These include numerous health and wellness education programs, substantial charity care, the subsidy of government-funded health programs, and low-cost and no cost programs and services. To ensure we are meeting our community’s health needs, we conduct a detailed community assessment and respond to the needs with our Community Benefits Plan. By collaborating with our health provider partners we attempt to affect change in the health of residents before they reach our doors.

We strive daily to collaborate with area physicians. That collaboration includes the development of important relationships that lead to better hospital care as well as a greater wealth of preventive services for community members.
