Hermosa Beach  View School’s transitional kindergarten through second grade students will move to the new Vista School, on April 12, following Spring Break, according to a statement issued this week by the district. View’s third graders are scheduled to move to Valley School in early March.

The classroom moves have been complicated by construction delays at Vista resulting from the pandemic. The district had planned for Vista to be completed next week.

But at the school board’s Jan. 29 meeting, a spokesperson for Erickson Hall Construction said the utilities companies, subcontractors and suppliers had all encountered pandemic-related delays. Construction was also slowed, he said, by nationwide concrete and steel shortages.

The lower grade students are being moved from View so renovations at View can begin upon Vista’s completion. View’s renovations are scheduled for completion in August 2022.

Upon completion of all of the school construction, transitional kindergarten through second grade students will return to View School, third and fourth grade students will attend the new Vista School, and fifth through eighth grade students will continue to attend Valley School.

Improvements at the district’s three schools are being funded by Measure S, a $59 million bond approved by voters in 2016. ER
