Measure E is failing by a 75 percent to 24 percent margin in preliminary Redondo Beach election results announced Wednesday night.

Fourth District City Councilman Zein Obagi, Jr., is surviving a recall attempt by a similar margin (73 percent to 26 percent).

More than 9,900 ballots have been counted, representing those collected up to last Friday. A remaining 1,700 ballots turned in over the weekend will be counted next, followed by drop-off ballots from this week and mail ballots postmarked by Oct. 19.

Final results will be announced Oct. 27.

Total votes for Measure E counted Wednesday numbered 7,210 “No” votes to 2,735 “Yes.” This represented votes in certain precincts in all five districts.

City Clerk Eleanor Manzano presented the preliminary numbers at 8 p.m. Wednesday from the Redondo Beach city council chambers.

Measure E is the public initiative to allow three retail marijuana stores in the city.
