The big news from Skechers this week was to be the 14th Annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, a star studded event that raises over $2 million annually for the Friendship Foundation, and local schools. This year’s walk is Sunday, October 30.
But Skechers upstaged its own event on Wednesday when news organizations around the world reported that disgraced hip hop superstar Kanye West was escorted away from Skechers’ Manhattan Beach headquarters. West is thought to have gone to Skechers to ask the shoe company to market his Yeezy shoes, which sell for $240 on Amazon. Until last week, the shoes were distributed by Adidas. It dropped the shoes because of West’s anti Semetic remarks. Skechers, which works closely with the South Bay Jewish community, issued a press release stating, “West showed up unannounced, and uninvited to Skechers corporate office. Skechers is not considering, and has no intention of working with West. We condemn his recent divisive remarks and do not tolerate antisemitism or any other form of hate speech. ER
