SPOTLIGHT: Springfest is back! The popular Springfest Redondo Carnival & Community Festival returns for a 40th year Thursday, April 13 through Sunday, April 16 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd. Enjoy carnival rides, a kids zone, petting zoo, food court, gourmet food trucks, music and entertainment. Free admission and parking. Single carnival ride tickets are $1.50. The festival hours are 5-10 p.m. Thursday, 5-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. Walkers needed

The South Bay will be represented at NAMI Walk, to be held on April 29 at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. (NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness.) The walk aims to raise awareness and funds to achieve the NAMI goals of fighting stigma and providing programs and services to families and persons with a mental illness at no cost. Spring musical

The Palos Verdes High School Drama Department is proud to present the smash Broadway hit, “Something Rotten!” Performances run April 14-15 and April 21-22 at 7 p.m., April 16 and April 23 at 2 p.m. and April 20 at 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Palos Verdes High School, 600 Cloyden Road in Palos Verdes Estates. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at pvhsdrama.com. The production is rated PG-13.

High school reunion

An all-day Miraleste High School all-class reunion is set for July 29. There will be alumni games, photo booths, live music, campus tours and a homecoming dance at Miraleste Intermediate School, formerly the high school, in Rancho Palos Verdes. South Coast Cactus & Succulent Society

The society’s annual show and sale is Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes. Thousands of plants for sale, hard to find plants, artistic pottery, expert advice and show plants. The art center galleries and gift shop will be open. Free admission and parking. Book sale

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold its monthly Saturday sale from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Items for sale include DVDs, CDs and LPs, nearly new jigsaw puzzles, a large selection of young adult novels and two shelves of books in large print, all priced at $1 or less. The bookstore is located on 11th Place behind the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave. Free parking is available in the Community Center parking lot next to the tennis courts and skateboard park. National Poetry Month Celebration

Enjoy a live poetry reading poetry at the Redondo Beach Public Library. Participants in a poetry workshop will read from their work. Joining them will be Los Angeles poet Brendan Constantine, the author of five full-length collections. 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach.

Beach clean up

Surfrider Foundation’s South Bay chapter will hold a beach clean up at 2 p.m. south of the Hermosa Beach Pier. Afterward, join the chapter for a social at the Lighthouse Cafe. The Lighthouse will be offering happy hour prices for those who helped with the beach cleanup. As a bonus, anyone who participated in the cleanup and turned in their trash will receive a ticket for one free drink. Register at southbay.surfrider.org.

Richstone gala

Richstone Family Center’s 28th annual Affair of the Heart Gala, a Havana Nights themed celebration, will take place at Porsche South Bay.  Doors open at 6 p.m. The annual event raises funds in support of wellness and education programs for low-income families in need of child abuse treatment and mental health services. Cancer Support: All About Menopause

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering this free workshop led by Nancy Siskowic, a nurse practitioner and menopause expert. Discussion will include symptoms, concerns, fears and benefits surrounding hormone therapy. Siskowic will also address the disease consequences of loss of estrogen, such as osteoporosis and heart disease. The workshop is from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at 2601 Airport Drive, Suite 100, Torrance. Earth Day celebration

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering this free program created for people diagnosed with bladder cancer. It is led by Dr. Lawrence Flechner, a South Bay urologic surgeon. The materials will educate patients on the types and stages of bladder cancers, potential treatments and side effects, clinical trials, and the emotional concerns of a bladder cancer diagnosis. The program is from 5:307 p.m. on Zoom. Driving tour

“The Art of the Road,” a driving tour of artistic and historic sites on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, will be held on May 6. Sponsored by The Circle of the Palos Verdes Art Center, the tour and finish line party is a fundraiser for the Art Center’s visual arts exhibition and education programs. Drivers and navigators in both classic and modern cars can participate in the tour and party for $350.
