Second public hearing on home design rules Aug. 15
The Redondo Beach city council will hold its second public hearing Aug. 15 on its proposal to turn city home-building guidelines into rules.
The long-gestating item was brought to the council two weeks ago after study and recommendations by the planning commission.
The effort aims to set hard rules on homes’ height, floor area ratio – what percentage of a lot may be built leaving the rest open space – setbacks for roof-decks and balconies, garage placement and more.
The city council, with District Two representative Todd Loewenstein absent Aug. 1, voted 3-1 to revise the planning commission’s draft Objective Design Standards. The decision included some standards and eliminated others. Next week’s public hearing is expected to begin soon after the city council’s regular 6 p.m. start.
City seeks input on logo redesign options
The Redondo Beach city logo redesign project solicits input on three concepts and three type treatments, with a community survey now open on the city website (www.redondo.org), which seeks a vote on three black and white options for a logo and lettering.
The Redondo Beach Logo Redesign Community Group was formed earlier this year. The three logo concepts and type treatments included in the survey are the top choices of the group.
Torrance man praises Redondo council rules
A man from Torrance spoke at the Redondo Beach city council meeting Aug. 1, praising the fact that in Redondo Beach, members of the public get a full three minutes to speak on non-agenda items and that, unlike in Torrance, there is no enclosure to stand in when giving input, among other complimentary remarks.
“Move to Redondo,” said Mayor Bill Brand at the conclusion of the man’s three minutes.
“Too expensive. Too expensive,” the man said as he walked back to his seat. ER
