Spanning 1973-2023

On September 9th, Terranea Resort hosted a formal RPV city affaire commemorating its 50th anniversary. The sold-out event was attended by over 300 guests and included city officials, our new PVPUSD superintendent of education, Dr. Devin Serrano and her husband Manny Serrano, Ann Shaw, co-founder and past president of Peninsula Seniors and City Manager, Ara Mihranian greeted guests graciously at the door. In the planning process for over a year, there was live music, a cocktail hour, sit-down dinner and dancing. Interestingly the name, “Rancho Palos Verdes” is Spanish for “Green Sticks Ranch” and comprises about 13.5 square miles at an elevation of 220 feet with a population as of 2020 of 40,948. The city has been home to many notable residents including Merrill Moses, the Olympic water polo player, Eli Morgan, the Major League Baseball player and Pete Sampras, World number one tennis player who grew up in RPV. The famous author, Joan Didion, lived in the Portuguese Bend Club area for a brief period of time with her husband and daughter. Amongst its many landmarks are Terranea Resort, Wayfarers Chapel designed by Lloyd Wright, Trump National Golf Club, Point Vicente Lighthouse, Portuguese Bend and Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, Salvation Army College for Officer Training and the Point Vicente Interpretive Center filled with Tongva Indian artifacts and Marineland memorabilia.
