Spotlight on History: The Peninsula celebrates women’s suffrage

Rolling Hills Estates Councilmembers Frank V. Zerunyan, and Velveth Schmitz, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, Senator Ben Allen, Rolling Hills Estates Mayor Britt Huff and Pam Brown-Schachter.

The Rolling Hills Estates City Hall patio was filled with nearly 100 leaders from local and regional government, non-profit organizations, as well as an equal number of enthusiastic residents, who celebrated the centennial of the 19th Amendment, giving  American  women the vote in 1920.  The celebration had been delayed three years due to the pandemic. The centerpiece of the celebration was the unveiling of a plaque in the City Hall courtyard honoring “the efforts of the brave individuals who fought tirelessly for women’s suffrage.” The plaque also recognized the present day women leaders, and the ongoing commitment of the PVP League of Women Voters (LWV).
