Police Beat: Motorcycle accident ruling

Motorcycle death ruled an accident

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has ruled that the death of Kyle Brimer, 17, of Hermosa Beach, while he was riding his motorcycle was an accident. Brimer was riding his motorcycle southbound on Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach on Wednesday, Jan. 10 when he was hit by a vehicle turning westbound on Carnelian Street.

Brimer was thrown from the bike and taken to the hospital where he later died. The Redondo Beach Police Department, in its initial statement, said the woman driver was cooperating with the investigation and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the fatal crash.

Manhattan BevMo windows smashed twice in a week

Thieves smashed the front door of the BevMo store on Rosecrans Avenue two times earlier this month, taking multiple bottles of alcohol on their second try.

The first time occurred at about 2:14 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2. Manhattan Beach Police Department officers were called to the scene of the store on the 1700 block of Rosecrans and found the front door of the BevMo was shattered.

Officers contacted the store manager and obtained video that showed a suspect using a boulder and a baseball bat to break the door. But the suspect was unsuccessful in entering the store and fled the area in a black, four-door sedan.

Four days later, Tuesday, Feb. 6,  the black sedan showed up at the same BevMo at about 2:49 a.m. MBPD officers responded to a commercial burglary alarm. When they got there, there was a smashed front door, but no suspects on site.

Video footage obtained by MBPD showed a suspect using a sledgehammer to shatter the front door. This time more than one suspect gained entry to the store. Suspects grabbed multiple bottles of alcohol and left the scene in the black sedan.

The MBPD took 22 crime reports during the week of Feb. 1 through Feb. 7, including three for assault. MBPD officers also took two reports for commercial burglary, three for theft , one for vehicle burglary and one for vandalism.

Hermosa arrest 2 drivers for DUIs, 2 for no license

Hermosa Beach Police Department officers arrested two different people for driving under the influence and another two for driving without a license during the week of Jan. 28 through Feb. 2.

A catalytic converter was stolen from a car in the parking lot of a hotel on the 100 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

HBPD officers arrested two people engaged in a fight on the 1100 block of Hermosa Ave.

A vehicle with an expired registration was found to have a loaded gun under the seat. Both the driver and passenger denied owning the gun. The mother of one of the people in the car later told police she owned the gun.
