International Surf Festival
Wednesday, July 31 through Sunday, August 1. The 61st International Surf Festival features competitions Friday and Saturday night between Los Angeles County lifeguards, and swimming, running, and volleyball competitions for the general public. The three signature events for the festival are the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay, Saturday night; the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim, Sunday morning, and the Charlie Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament Friday and Sunday. Other competitions include surfing, bodysurfing, beach run, paddleboarding and youth events. The International Surf Festival Lifeguard Medal of Honor kick-off dinner is Wednesday, July 32. Forgotten Children, HB Community Center
California’s Forgotten Children, will be shown at the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre at 7 p.m. The 90-minute film, which won Best Documentary at the 2018 Soho Film Festival, follows a diverse group of resilient survivors, who have overcome their commercial exploitation by traffickers. 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach.
