BooksRun Free Book Scholarship

Scholarships are an incredible source of financial help for those wanting to study. As opposed to loans, grants are free money. This means you won’t have to worry about repaying the loan later on, reducing financial stress and allowing you to focus more on learning. In fact, a recent Forbes report found that those receiving private scholarships are more likely to graduate than those whose only option is to take out loans.

Tuition is expected to increase in the 2024–25 academic year. At public colleges, which receive direct state funding, fees can range from $11,000 to $29,000. Private colleges typically cost about $41,000 per year. Here’s an overview of different types of scholarships, including the BooksRun scholarship for 2024, and how to save money on textbooks.

What should you know about scholarships?

The cost of higher education can rise quickly. That’s why scholarships are the most desirable thing to have during college. The following types of scholarships are available:

  1. Academic scholarships. One of the most common types of scholarship funds is academic scholarships. Students may lose funding for subsequent semesters if they do not meet the requirements.
  2. Full-Ride Scholarships. Full-ride scholarships, which often cover tuition, fees, housing, books, and living expenses, are considered the holy grail for students seeking postsecondary education.
  3. Government Scholarships. Government tuition scholarships may be available if a student already receives government assistance, such as Social Security, EBT/Snap, or military benefits. Some include the cost of textbooks, while others do not.
  4. Scholarships by Major. They are available for a variety of majors, including STEM (science, technology, engineering, math).

According to Statista, around 23.5% of high school graduates in 2023 might have been unemployed, compared to 15.8% today. Since 2000, the percentage of hired secondary school graduates has risen and fallen. In 2020, the unemployment rate for high school graduates fell to 7.5 percent, much lower than the jobless rate among all graduates. In 2021, 90.1% of the population in the United States aged 25 and up graduated from high school. Thus, a scholarship with free instructional resources significantly influences a student.

Сollege textbooks scholarships

Today, most textbook scholarships are funded by specific schools, community foundations, local and regional nonprofit organizations, and churches. For instance, the Wilhelmina Foundation grants book scholarships to students in Florida, while the KLM Foundation scholarships are available to students in Virginia and Maryland.

Many people are familiar with the Helping Hands book scholarship. The Helping Hands scholarship provides a one-time gift of $100–1,000 every semester. Cracking a book is much easier when you balance the books.

Saving money strategies

You can attend community college and then transfer to a four-year institution to complete your education. There are other ways to save money as well:

  • Search for study materials on online marketplaces (Amazon, eBay).
  • Search for textbooks from upper-level courses.
  • Buy textbooks online.
  • Use the bookcrossing system.
  • Use the “2–1” system (one textbook for two students).

High schools and colleges can enhance their impact by providing targeted resources and support to students who need extra help preparing for college.

Free book scholarships from private companies

Success is working for some big company. But what if working for a small, lesser-known company could be your ticket to success in your career?

Small companies initiate scholarships with free textbooks. One often considers that the main goal is to get a job in some giant company. Over the years, attractive pictures of prestige, benefits, and promises of stability in a particular organization have been depicted.

BookBub and CampusBooks are examples of book promo companies. The websites of some of the companies mentioned above support educational initiatives, even if they are not limited to scholarships.
