Redondo Beach Fire Department personnel fight Palisades fire

By Garth Meyer

Two Redondo Beach Fire Department engines and their crews were on the scene in Pacific Palisades Tuesday to help fight the sudden wildfire, estimated to have burned 5,000 acres and claimed at least 1,000 structures as of Wednesday morning.

Redondo Beach City Manager Mike Witzansky reported the mutual aid dispatch of the local firefighters and equipment at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

“We have two crews there, battling flames… We are in the thick of it… this is a very precarious fire and we are very much involved,” he said.

Fire at Pier’s Maison Riz

Redondo Beach firefighters put out a blaze Monday afternoon, Jan. 6, at 12:15 p.m. at the Pier’s Maison Riz, evacuating seven people, after smoke and fire were reported from the two-story restaurant.

The flames appeared to start near an electric business sign, and spread to the connected building, which houses the restaurant as well as office space.

Firefighters from outside the city came to give mutual aid. Redondo Beach Fire Chief Patrick Butler estimated the blaze was put out in 10 minutes,

The wooden Pier is of special concern when a fire breaks out.

The seven evacuees were from neighboring businesses to Maison Riz.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation. ER
