Redondo Union had strong performances from its boys and girls cross country teams Saturday highlighted by the boys team championship at the Great Cow Run in Cerritos.
William Tait led the Sea Hawks with a 6th-place finish on the three-mile course with a time of 15 minutes, 7 seconds, just behind 5th-place runner Nick Lofgren of South Torrance who posted a time of 15:03.
Dustin Herold also had a strong performance for the Sea Hawks, finishing 10th in the field of 207 runners with a time of 15:15.
Redondo solidified its No.1 ranking in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll tallying 84 points to beat Loyola (87) and Fountain Valley. Loyola is ranked No. 4 and Fountain Valley No. 9 in Division 1.
Other Redondo runners included Carlos Suarez (12th, 15:17), Nicolas Wells (26th, 15:40), Waseem Radi (30th, 15:47), Takehiro Yamaya (48th, 15:59), Tomohiro Yamaya (65th, 16:12), Nicholas Amorelli (82nd, 16:25), Sergio Rodriguez (85th, 16:26) and Luke Stevens (86th, 16:27).
The Lady Sea Hawks scored 112 points to finish third behind M.L. King of Riverside (85) and Long Beach Poly (86). Redondo’s girls team is ranked No. 7 in Division 2 while M.L. King and Long Beach Poly hold down the 8th and 9th spots in Division 1, respectively.
South Torrance’s Kimberly Coscia won the girls race with a time of 17:54, besting a field of 115 runners. Redondo was led by Amber Gore (5th, 18:20), Anevay Hiehle (11th, 18:38), Paige Sullivan (31st, 19:35), Jessica Washington (41st, 19:56) and Nicole Pederson (46th, 20:11).
Mira Costa kicks off its cross country season Saturday at the Laguna Hills Invitational. The Mustang’s girls team is ranked No. 3 in Division 2.
Mira Costa and Redondo will compete in the Woodbridge Invitational in Costa Mesa on Saturday, Sept. 21.
