Soccer: Manhattan Beach’s Chuck Pitts was named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association First Team after the junior forward led Humboldt State to its first winning season (8-7-2) since 2006. During his season year at Mira Costa, Pitts was the Offensive Player of the Year for the Mustang’s soccer team.
Three South Bay girls have been selected to participate in the annual U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls Thanksgiving Interregional to be held Nov. 21-28 at Spanish River Athletic Park in Boca Raton, Fla. Brooke Littman, (Rancho Palos Verdes, goalkeeper – Real So Cal, 1998), Mina Ghazizadeh (Torrance, midfielder – Slammers FC, 1999) and Luisa Delgado-Heinz (Manhattan Beach, midfielder-Real So Cal, 2000) were among nearly 300 elite players in the 1997-2000 age groups, from each of the four U.S. Youth Soccer Regions. The event will consist of training sessions and matches in front of U.S. Soccer national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play.
Beach Futbol Club is holding its Junior Academy for players in U5-U10 divisions. Ten Friday sessions run from Nov. 14 to Feb. 6 with four Saturday morning games beginning Jan. 17. Registration is available for the Sea Hawk elite Winter Baseball Camp to be held from 9 a.m. – 1 pm. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24-25, 2015 at Alta Vista Park.
