Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in every ethnic group and the second leading cause of all deaths in the United States. It was the cause of 157,300 deaths in 2010 — more than colorectal, female breast, pancreas and prostate cancers combined – yet funding committed to lung cancer research is 11 percent of that committed to combined funding for all other cancers, according to the Lungevity Foundation. In 2010, the federal funding for lung cancer research has been less than 4 percent than that of breast cancer.
