
Farmers market anniversary
The Manhattan Beach Farmers Market will celebrate its ninth birthday on July 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Mayor Mark Burton. It will also be officially certified as a green business. Events include storytime by {pages} a bookstore at 11:30 a.m.; eco-friendly veggie painting at the Grades of Green booth from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and activities like compost/worm beds for kids all afternoon.
Day of love at the beach
The nonprofit organization P.S. I Love You will have its 15th annual Day at the Beach on July 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event brings over 300 at-risk kids, ages five through 12, many of whom have never seen the beach, together with volunteer mentors for a day of fun by the ocean. Activities will include surf lessons, sand crafts, relay races and swimming. Olympic volleyball player and Manhattan Beach native Mike Dodd will also teach volleyball on the beach. Kinecta celebrates 75 years
Kinecta Federal Credit Union will celebrate its 75th anniversary with an event benefiting the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. The event will feature a Texas-style BBQ, chili cook-off, music, children’s entertainment and raffle prizes on July 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Special Olympics athletes will be on hand from Hawthorne-based Mychal’s Learning Place, which serves people with developmental disabilities. There is a suggested donation of 75 cents for food and $1 for raffle tickets. The celebration will be held at Kinecta Federal Credit Union main office at 1440 Rosecrans Ave. ER
