Spotlight: Local musician Gavin Heaney, known as Latch Key Kid, will take the stage at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, July 24 as part of the city’s annual Concerts in the Park series. The series, presented by Chevron, features concerts every Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the Polliwog Park amphitheater through Sept. 4. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics.

Sandcastles contest
Time is running out to enter the Roundhouse Aquarium’s second annual summer sand sculpture contest. The deadline to register and upload a photo is Sunday, July 24. Winners will be named on Aug. 17. The rules state that participants may build their sand sculpture on their own time at any location. They don’t even have to be near a beach. They’re welcome to build their sculpture at the nearest park or sandbox. The entry fee is $30, with funds raised going to the Roundhouse Aquarium’s education programs. Where’s Waldo in Manhattan Beach
Waldo is hiding in 25 local businesses in downtown Manhattan Beach. Stop by Waldo headquarters at {pages} a bookstore at 904 Manhattan Ave., Manhattan Beach to get started. When you spot Waldo at any of the participating businesses, go inside to collect a store stamp or signature. Once you’ve collected at least 10 different store stamps/signatures, take them to {pages} to claim a Waldo temporary tattoo, and a $1 off coupon (limited to the first 125 Waldo-spotters).
