Snow flurries at the beach

The Point in El Segundo is trading in sandcastles for snowmen as they invite guests to enjoy snow showers every Friday and Saturday through Dec. 23 and then every night from Dec. 19 through Dec. 23. Snow flurries will take place on the grass at The Point and will happen every 30 minutes from 6-8 p.m. Information: thepointsb.com

Manhattan Beach art exhibit

Lynn Aldrich’s “Fly High Fly Deep,” an exhibit about environmental conservation, is on display at the Manhattan Beach Art Center through Jan. 1. Viewers are invited to consider the wonder and fragility of life in the sky and sea. The center’s gallery is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. For more information, call 310-802-5440.

New art exhibit

Manhattan Beach native Shane Foley, a 3D print designer and artist, has a new art show at Culture Brewing Co., 327 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach. The exhibit, on display through December, features a variety of digital and physical art projects, from porcelain ceramic art to 3D printing and digital design.

Torrance art exhibits

The Torrance Art Museum’s fall exhibitions are on display through December. The exhibits are “Un-Civil War! (An Election Special),” a critical inquiry into the deepening divisions in America’s political and cultural landscape, and “Ken Friedman: 92 Events.” 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. Sports luncheon. The South Bay Athletic Club will salute the late George Swade when it meets at noon at H.T. Grill, 1701 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. The public is invited. Swade coached football at Bishop Montgomery High and Harbor College. Lunch is $30.

Saturday, Dec. 10

Santa Stroll

The fourth annual California Great Santa Stroll, a fundraiser for Mychal’s Learning Place, which assists youths and young adults with developmental disabilities, will take place on Dec. 10. The festive event is a 5K run or walk for all ages and abilities. Scores of Santas will stroll along the Strand from Hermosa Beach to Manhattan Beach and back. Each registration comes with a five-piece Santa suit and backpack filled with promotional items. To register, go to santastroll21.funraise.org.

Rock for Tots Toy Drive Charity Concert

The 17th Annual Rock for Tots Toy Drive Charity Concert is s set for 2-9 p.m. at Hermosa Music Company, 636 Cypress Ave. There will be an additional hangout lounge next door at Shockboxx Art Gallery. Doors open at 1 p.m. The concert is a fundraiser in association with the Beach Cities Toy Drive and the Harbor Regional Center Help Fund. The bands include Jeremy Buck & The Bang, The Kevin Sousa Band, Barley, and The Lucky Ones. There will also be acoustic performances by Pedro Reis, Kat Hall, Joe Cipolla, Michael Gourzis, Mike and Jeff, Olivia Pucci and MEGG. The event will be live streamed at rock4tots.net, on YouTube and Facebook. A limited number of tickets are on sale and can be purchased at rock4tots.net for a donation of $60 each. Raffle tickets and concert T-shirts will be for sale at the show, with all proceeds going to charity. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a new toy worth at least $5 in value.

Christmas show

Manhattan Beach Community Church will present its second annual “Merry Christmas Show” at 7:30 p.m. in the community hall. The show features the melodrama, “The Old Cookie Shop.” All children in attendance will have the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Clause, have their pictures taken and tell Santa what they want for Christmas. Caroling and refreshments will immediately follow the show. The church is located at 703 S. Peck Ave.

 

Sunday, Dec. 11

Spotlight: Skechers Manhattan Beach Fireworks
The Skechers Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks show at the Manhattan Beach pier begins at 7 p.m. Blanket seating will be permitted on Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Mira Costa carolers will stroll through the downtown, starting at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. there will be photos with Santa, and the Hyperion Outfall Serenaders will perform a Holiday Dixie show. Antiques fair

The Torrance Antique Street Faire is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Torrance. Santa will be on hand for photo opportunities and there will be holiday music, as well. Holiday benefit show

The Mira Costa Drama/Tech Department’s annual holiday benefit show is at 7 p.m. in the small theater on campus. Students will entertain the audience with a holiday-themed variety show. Admission is $5 at the door, with all proceeds benefitting Adopt-A-Family. 

Book discussion

Find out what Cancer Support Community South Bay is all about in this virtual orientation meeting scheduled for 11 a.m on Dec. 16. Participants will be given a virtual tour of the community and learn about the many free programs CSC South Bay offers cancer patients and their loved ones. Book sale

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold its monthly Saturday sale from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 17. Items for sale include books, DVDs, CDs and LPs and nearly new jigsaw puzzles all priced at $1 or less. The bookstore is located on 11th Place behind the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave., west of Pacific Coast Highway and the Veterans Memorial and across the street from the Alano Club. Free parking is available in the Community Center parking lot next to the tennis courts and skateboard park. The bookstore’s regular hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays. Guided Nature Walk

There will be a guided nature walk at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 17. Naturalists will guide you along a trail to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Park in the lot at the end of 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Preserve parking available in a gravel lot at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Technology Workshop with Leuzinger High School Students 

In this free workshop from Cancer Support Community South Bay, Leuzinger High students will answer questions on the latest technology as it relates to emails, surfing the web, social media, online video chatting and more. No prior experience or knowledge is needed. Attendees are encouraged to bring the technology they want to learn on — phone, iPad, tablet and/or laptop.
