“Summer Fun,” an exhibit by 60 artists, opens with a reception Friday evening, August 9, in downtown Hermosa Beach. The exhibit of over 80 pieces will be hosted at three locations, all within walking distance —  Gallery of Hermosa, Made by Inch custom furniture, and Easy Reader. Nearby restaurants, including Hook & Plow, Decadence and Uncorked will offer themed specials.

Local artists Jesse Aldana, Chrisi Karvonides-Dushenko, and Marlene Yamada are among the participants. Aldana holds a BA from Brown University and an MFA from The New York Academy of Art. Aldana’s paintings capture the openness of the west coast and often depict skyscapes and coastal scenes. He was awarded first place in the painting category at the Beverly Hills Art Show in May.

Yamanda is a self-taught, Manhattan Beach artist whose paintings experiment with underlying textures and colorful layers.

Emmy-award winning Chrisi Karvonides-Dushenko’s background includes costume design for HBO’s Big Love and American Horror Story. She is the head of UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. Her paintings mirror her passion for visual storytelling.

“Summer Fun” continues through Tuesday, September 3.
