The South Redondo Beach AYSO Region 34 girls under-10 all-star team, the Seahawks, won the Area D Tournament which included teams from South Redondo, North Redondo, Manhattan Beach, Westchester, El Segundo, Lennox, and Hawthorne. The team will represent Area D when it competes in the all-star sectional playoffs in Riverside this weekend. Team members include Coach John Beatty, Assistant Coach Tony Jones, Mia Alexander, Alexandra Beatty, Alyssa Ehritz, Senna Frankel, Emma Hodges, Susan Jones, Antigone Kinsey, Saige Stock, Opal Ward and Gracie Washburn.
Running – Presented by the City of Hermosa Beach, the G.I. Joe Bootcamp annual spring Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk will be held Saturday at 7 a.m. Approximately four miles, the sand course goes to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Volleyball – Registration and volunteer positions now open for the United States youth Volleyball League (USYVL) Spring Season. The 8-week league in El Segundo at Washington Park and Hermosa Beach at South Park will run from April to June and is also looking for volunteer coaches, site directors and clinicians (volleyball instructors). The Hermosa Beach 4-Person Coed Beach Volleyball Tuesday League begins March 15 north of the Hermosa Beach pier and will be played from 6-8 p.m. Team registration must be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach prior to league start date. There is a cap of 44 teams and individuals must contact Prank Monkey to be placed on a team for registration. Cost for the six-week league (plus two playoff weeks) is $225 per team. Fitness – GI Joe Winter Boot Camp runs through March 25 for ages 8 and up. Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions are available at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. at the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Cost is $195 ($214.50 for non-resident). AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities. Registration is open for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Beach Cities to be held from 9 a.m. July 23 until 9 a.m. July 24 at Alta Vista Elementary School in Redondo Beach. Supporting Redondo and Hermosa Beach communities, the family-oriented event helps raise funds to help eliminate cancer while celebrating the lives of those who have faced the disease.
