Thursday, August 5
Steely Dan tribute

First Thursday
Hermosa’s downtown shops, cafes, art galleries, salons and gyms will keep their doors open and add special touches of food, drink or entertainment. 5 to 9 p.m. as part of the First Thursday event.

Spyder summer movie

Community Outdoor Movies
AES Seaside Cinema will show the movie “The Sandlot” at 7 p.m. at the Seaside Lagoon at 200 Portofino Way in Redondo Beach as part of their Outdoor Movie Nights. Rare Fruit

9/11 Day of Service-Students Literature and Art Contest
In honor of the 9/11 Day of Service, teens from the Volunteer Center Youth Coalition will be holding a literacy and fine arts contest. Submissions will be complied and printed into the first annual Tribute of Legacy Through Creativity (TLC) Book. The Volunteer Center Youth Coalition is looking for youth who are gifted in writing and visual arts to submit their entries to The Volunteer Center, South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach by Wednesday, Aug. 11. They are accepting short stories, poems, essays, drawings, paintings, photographs, and sculptures. This year’s theme is “Remembering and Honoring our Communities’ First Responders; They Give Every Day.
