
The Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club announced the awarding of $26,500 in academic scholarships last week. The scholarships include $3,000 to El Camino College Circle “K” members; $6,000 to Redondo Union High School Key Club members; and $17,500 to students at Mira Costa and Redondo Union high schools. The funds were raised from community members and the Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot.
Also this year, In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Kiwanis has donated $1,000 to the House of Yahweh, $1,500 to the LA Food Bank, $1,500 to Hope in Action Food Bank, and $300 to Laundry for Love for the homeless by purchasing gift cards at McDonalds and also by making PB&J sack lunches that were distributed by St. Cross Church members to local homeless. Kiwanis has also purchased $5,000 in gift cards from our local restaurants and businesses, especially from those who supported Kiwanis fundraising efforts in the past.
