Interim Principal
The Hermosa Beach City School District has hired Rita Flynn as the interim principal of Hermosa Valley School for the first two months of the school year. New Principal Kim Taylor is expected to give birth soon, and Flynn will fill in from Aug. 20 through Oct. 12. Flynn, a former principal of Norwood Elementary School and current instructor at UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute, served as an interim principal at Hermosa Valley during the 2010-2011 school year, school officials said. Flynn will make $497 a day, according to her contract.

Taste At The Beach
The Kiwanis Club will host its 7th annual Taste At The Beach Aug. 19 to benefit the South Park renovation project.
The event will feature wine, craft beers and plenty of food from many of the area’s top restaurants, caterers and vendors, as well as a live jazz band and silent auction.
The Taste At The Beach will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Community Center on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Pier Avenue. Tickets can be purchased at www.tasteatthebeach.com or by telephone at 310-386-7478. Tickets are $65 each and are tax-deductable. To attend, you must be 21 or older.
Disaster Training
The next meeting of the Hemosa Beach CERT and Disaster Service Workers will be held Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 7-9 p.m. in the city’s Emergency Operations Center inside the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Avenue. Organizers will be demonstrating how to set up and use equipment in response to a potential disaster that could affect Hermosa Beach.
