Film festival

The South Bay Summer Film Showcase will feature the work of local independent filmmakers on Saturday, July 28 at 4 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse, 710 Pier Ave. Tickets are $10 online before the show, and $15 at the door. Each filmmaker will talk briefly before his or her screening, and beverages will be available for purchase in the lobby beforehand and during intermission. The event will last until 10 p.m. and include one intermission and 3.75 hours of screening time. Tickets can be purchased at agentchill.com.

Night burglary

Police said on July 17 between 8 and 10 p.m. someone entered a residence through an open bedroom window in the 00 block of 10th Street. The bedroom was ransacked and numerous items were taken, totally more than $5,000. The suspect did not appear to have entered any other room in the residence and left through the window in the bedroom, police said. A couple of hours later the victim saw the suspect wearing his clothes and bracelet, and the suspect was arrested, police said. Most of the stolen merchandise was recovered, police added. Ashton Timmons, 23, of Manhattan Beach was charged with felony burglary, police said.
