Artists across the town are being called to use their skills to help create the new Fiesta Hermosa logo. The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau will be using the winning logo on event banners, T-shirts and other Fiesta material.
“We wanted to open it up for artists to submit their interpretations of what Fiesta Hermosa means to them,” said Hermosa Beach chamber public relations and special events manager Matt Bennett. “We really want to make sure the locals and businesses are involved.”
Fiesta Hermosa is the largest arts and crafts fair in Southern California. It has been a part of the community since 1972 and takes place every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. More than 400 artists and crafters take to the street to share their skills, including painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelers, sculptors and handcrafters.
“We want the fiesta to be an event locals feel welcome at,” said Bennett. “We attract a lot of visitors, but we want residents and businesses to feel a part of the event as well.”
To keep the contest local, the contest is only open to artists living or working in Hermosa Beach. Designs are due by March 28 at 5 p.m. and the winning entry will receive a one-year free membership in the Hermosa Beach Chamber. Entries should be jpeg format, preferably horizontal.
This year the chamber will also be offering incentives to local artists by giving them a 50-percent discount on their entry to this year’s fairs. More local performers will take to the two stages and chamber member restaurants will receive priority placement in the food court. As always, the funds from the Fiesta’s charity beer and wine garden will be donated to local organizations.
“It’s always been sort of a showcase weekend for Hermosa,” said Bennett, who is looking forward to seeing the contest submissions.
