The theme for the 27th Annual King Harbor Boat Parade was “Deck the Hulls with Love.” So it was fitting that Saturday evening’s grand marshall was Torrance resident Ted Lange, better known as Isaac the bartender on the long running (1977-1987) television show “The Love Boat.”

In addition to a respected acting career, which earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year, Lange is a prolific playwright. Last year, he earned the NAACP’s Best Play award for “The Cause, My Soul,” a prequel to Shakespeare’s “Othello,” marking Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary. Lange rode in the parade aboard the 70-foot power boat Disappearance.
The parade’s paddlecraft division also had a celebrity in Lia Ditton, who rowed a prototype of the boat she hopes to row from Japan to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco this coming March. A record 38 boats and over a dozen paddle craft participated in the parade, which circled King Harbor’s main channel. Proceeds from the silent auction at the awards party, hosted by the King Harbor Yacht Club, will benefit the King Harbor Youth Foundation, the Santa Monica Bay Maritime Training, Waterfront Education and Giving Back Corporation of L.A.
