A 71-year-old Long Beach man died today after going into cardiac arrest and colliding with a Best Western Sunrise Inn sign at 400 N. Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach400 N. Paramedics and police officers were dispatched to the scene at 10:40 a.m., where they found the man unconscious in his Dodge truck, a press release by the Redondo Police Department stated.

The man apparently veered from his southbound lane onto oncoming traffic before striking a car and ultimately colliding with the sign, the release stated. The driver of the car was uninjured, as was the man’s son-in-law, who was riding passenger in the truck.

The man was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, where he was pronounced dead, after paramedics had administered CPR for 30 minutes with no result.
