Theft busts
On June 29, after a foot chase, two suspects were arrested for organized retail theft at Macy’s department store in Manhattan Village shopping center. All the merchandise, which police estimate was worth thousands of dollars, was recovered. Both suspects, who allegedly committed similar crimes earlier, received additional charges in Redondo Beach.
On June 30, another arrest occurred, with a man accused of organized retail theft at CVS drug store and BevMo liquor store. The suspec was also charged with robbery after allegedly striking an employee with a bottle at BevMo.
Firearm arrest
On July 1, MBPD received reports from residents about a reckless driver. Officers responded and arrested four people on firearm-related charges and resisting arrest. Officers sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
4th of July
MBPD was busy over the holiday week, registering 903 calls for service. MBPD crime stats showed an uptick in vehicular burglaries, going from two the previous week to ten the first week of July. On July 4, notable incidents included an intoxicated suspect arrested for residential burglary and a group of teenagers cited for fireworks-related charges, and one for public intoxication, on the beach.
