Firefighters search for elderly woman in house ablaze

Fire and police units arrived Tuesday to heavy, hot smoke covering the ground floor of the tri-level Manhattan Beach home of an elderly woman officials feared might have been inside.

The blaze started around noon at the house, located in the 200 block of Dianthus Street, officials said.

Firefighters forced open the front door and aggressively searched the home for the woman.

“Fortunately, no one was found and we learned the elderly woman and her caretaker were at the Joslyn Center playing bingo,” said MBFD Interim Chief Ken Shuck.

Firefighters arrived to the home less than four minutes from the time they received the call and extinguished the fire within five minutes.

Shuck said the house sustained significant fire, heat, smoke and water damage.

Fire investigators immediately began an investigation into the cause and origin of the blaze. ER
