Sixteen years ago, Rabbi Yossi Mintiz asked a Mira Costa High School social club called PACE to befriend fellow students with disabilities, such as autism, Down Syndrome, and cerebral palsy. Xan Saks was among the PACE students who responded by helping form the Mira Costa Friendship Circle. Jakob Dominguez was among the disabled students Saks befriended. Last Thursday the two met up again to participate in a $1 million check presentation to what has grown into the 52 campus Friendship Foundation.
The Congressional Community Project Funding Grant was presented by Congressman Ted Lieu (Dem., 36th District). Last week, construction began on the $50 million Friendship Campus, in Redondo Beach. The school will offer vocational training for special needs kids. For more information visit FriendshipFoundation.com. ER
