The mayor and City Council re-opened Perry Park on Tuesday, unveiling a series of newly renovated features and a bronze plaque to commemorate the donors who made them possible.

Improvements include new play equipment and surfacing, basketball goal structures, fencing, and bleachers, and the following sports field upgrades – replacement of dugout and spectator area surfacing, painting of the baseball backstop, and replacement of backstop fencing.

The total cost of the project was $232,700, with $126,200 provided by the City of Redondo Beach, $100,000 provided by the County of Los Angeles through Proposition A, and $6,500 provided by private donors, which include Redondo Beach Little League, Dean A. Thomas, AES Southland, Athens Services, Sharefest, M.E. O’Brien, South Bay Credit Union, U.S. Bank, Charlie D’Agostino, and Peter Erdelyi and Associates.

District 4 councilmember Steve Diels extended a heartfelt thanks to all contributors at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

“Something I’ve learned as an eight-year veteran now of the City Council is how generous our community really is… We could not have made these improvements and re-dedicated Perry Park without donations and actually sweat equity put in by residents of our city,” he said.

Perry Park is a community park that features a senior center, a teen center, play equipment, a picnic area, basketball courts, and sports fields.
