Teddy Campos, who was found dead in a stairwell in the Redondo Beach Pier parking structure, had many friends and family who loved him, his brother sad.” He was a somebody to so many people,” Andrew told Easy Reader. “I don’t like the context that he was a nobody. He was never dirty, he was always clean. He was healthy.”
Campos, 43, was found to have been shot in the head on Friday, Feb. 16 at a little after 6 a.m. RBPD is conducting a homicide investigation, however, there is no suspect and no known motive, a department press release said.
“He was an innocent person,” his brother Andrew said. “He had no enemies. He always told people he loved them. He’s always showing love to people.”
Despite reports the victim was homeless, Andrew said he had an apartment in Carson and previous to that lived with their sister in Hawthorne. Years ago, Teddy did live at the beach for a time and he had his “struggles,” Andrew said.
Most recently, Teddy worked as a cashier at a Dollar Tree store and also worked construction and remodeling jobs.
“He had his own money,” Andrew said. “He had his own thing. I really hate how everyone is talking about, ‘He’s homeless,'” he said.
Teddy spent the 2023 holidays with his family, and bought Christmas gifts for all of Andrew’s five children, including a bike for one of his sons, Andrew said. Teddy assembled the bike for Andrew’s son, he added.
Teddy was Andrew’s older brother by eight years. They and their two sisters grew up in Long Beach. Teddy loved the beach. He didn’t surf, but he rode a boogie board. He also skateboarded and biked along The Strand, his brother said. Hermosa Beach Police Department officers cited two people for public urination and another two for public intoxication during the week of Feb. 4 through Feb. 10.
There were two reported thefts. One involved an Uber driver who promised to return items to passengers, but drove off while the passengers were unloading their luggage with some of their property still in the car.
A suspect entered a business and allegedly harassed a victim, grabbing the victim’s hand and kissing it before trying to put the victim’s hand on the suspect’s groin.
