In-person meetings will resume for the Redondo Beach city council May 3.
During its regular Zoom meeting last week, the council voted to approve the change, with the option to reverse course if virus conditions change – and perhaps keep a few meetings online regardless.
“We’re optimistic that we can return to in-person on May 3,” said City Manager Mike Witzansky.
Councilman Nils Nehrenheim asked about scheduling one meeting per month to remain online, saying it is more accessible for the public.
“It would be optimal,” said Witzansky.
Another idea was to have the first and third meeting of the month in-person.
“If the Department of Health recommended social distancing, then it would change,” said City Attorney Mike Webb.
“I will be there masked,” Councilman Christian Horvath said.
Representative Todd Loewenstein was not in attendance, and Laura Emdee did not arrive until after the agenda item.
Councilman Zein Obagi, Jr., made a point that it is hard for the public to sign up for Zoom comments.
“It’s actually a pain in the butt,” he said.
Witzansky explained that the issue has been that there is no hyperlink on the agenda directions – due to technical problems.
In the end, the council voted 3-0 to hold the May 3 meeting in person. ER
