Mental Health Evaluation

A woman called 911 on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:52 p.m., stating she was intoxicated and suicidal, providing limited information before eventually hanging up. Redondo Beach Police were able to determine that the call came from the bike path at Avenue I, near the Esplanade.

As an officer was traveling down the ramp to check the beach, the woman threw a glass bottle at his vehicle, but did not hit it.

Officers were able to detain the uncooperative woman without incident. She was eventually transported by Redondo Beach Fire Department via ambulance for a mental health evaluation.

Mental Health Evaluation

Police responded to King Harbor’s Basin 3 on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:15 p.m. to assist Fire Department and Lifeguard personnel with a combative man. The man entered the water multiple times, having to be rescued each time. RBPD arrived on scene to assist and learned that he was swimming out into the water in an attempt to drown himself. The man was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

DUI, Public Intoxication

On Friday, Oct. 18, at 10:55 p.m., police received a radio call of a DUI driver involved in a traffic collision with parked vehicles on the 500 block of N. Elena Avenue. Upon contact, officers located the passenger who was determined to be intoxicated in a public place and unable to care for his safety.

The driver had fled the scene on foot. While transporting the passenger to jail, officers spotted the driver, who attempted to hide from them. He was detained, displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was positively identified by a witness as the driver. The driver refused to take field sobriety tests and a chemical test and was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI.

Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia, Stay Away Order

On Friday, Oct. 18, at 11:12 p.m., officers received a radio call of a petty theft from a store on the 1700 block of Aviation Blvd. by a known transient who had been previously trespassed the location and had a valid stay away order. An officer located the subject nearby and placed him under arrest for violation of the stay-away order. During a search, officers found narcotics paraphernalia in the suspect’s possession.
