“Sandy Claw’s” 5th and 6th Street Hermosa Beach neighbors represented two generations and two decades of competing in the Hermosa Beach Sandman contest.“Sand Santa Helix’s” builders came from Palos Verdes, North Carolina and New York. They were competing for the first time after having learned from the web site 23 and Me that they were related.
Over 20 families competed in this year’s contest, on Saturday, December 7 on the beach at 15th Street in Hermosa. Prizes were awarded for Most Unique, Most Traditional, Best Dressed and Funniest Sandmen. Prizes included $50 gift certificates to the Hermosa Kiwanis holiday Tree Lot.
The contest is organized each year by the Hermosa Community Resources coordinator Nick Shatuck with judging by the Parks and Rec commission. ER
