The International Surf Festival, the South Bay’s biggest participatory beach sporting event, began Wednesday evening with the youth sailing competition, hosted by the King Harbor Yacht Club. Competition resumes Friday morning with the Charlie Saikley Six Man/Woman Volleyball tournament at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Friday evening, the festival moves to the Hermosa Pier for the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Championships.
Saturday events include:
- Body Surfing: 6:45 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier, hosted by the Gillis Bodysurfing Assoc.
- Summer Classic Surf-off: 7:30 a.m. Manhattan Pier, hosted by the SB Boardriders Club/Spyder Surf.
- Torrance Paddleboard Race: 8 a.m., Torrance Beach, hosted by the SB Boardriders Club.
- Dick Fitzgerald Two Mile Beach Run: 8 a.m., Hermosa Pier.
- California Beach VB Tourney: 9 a.m. Hermosa Pier.
- Paul Matthies Dory Race: 9:30 a.m., Hermosa Pier.
- Lifeguard Championships 7 p.m., Hermosa Pier.
Sunday events include:
- Velzy Stevens Paddleboard Race: 7:30 a.m, Manhattan Pier.
- Dwight Crum Pier to Pier Swim: 9 a.m., Hermosa Pier.
- Junior Six boys/girls: 9 a.m., Manhattan Pier.
- Youth swim/paddle: 1 p.m., Hermosa Pier.
