Redondo Beach Police Department officers arrested two 15-year-old Redondo Union High sophomores this week. One was arrested Monday, the second on Tuesday. Each was found to have loaded firearms. Police did not release their names.

The school was put on lockdown Monday and Tuesday, and will be closed tomorrow, December 6, when police plan to do a K-9 search of the campus for weapons and explosives.

The school will reopen on Thursday (Dec. 7), using only three entry/exit points. Redondo police officers and school officials will be stationed at each.

The first incident occurred on Monday at about 10:30 a.m. when police arrested the student with help of school officials, without incident.

RBPD officers were called to the school, again, on Tuesday at 9:23 a.m. following a report of another student with a firearm on campus. This second student fled from school officials on foot, but was subsequently taken into custody by RBPD officers.

Anyone who has information about the case is asked to contact RBPD by calling

(310) 379-2477 or texting (310) 339-2362. Tips may also be sent anonymously to crimetips@redondo.org. ER
