Three veterans will receive Hero Quilts this weekend at the American Legion South Bay, Redondo Beach, Post 184. The first recipient will be Col. Kenneth Hughey, an Air Force F-4 Phantom pilot who lives in El Segundo.
Hughey was shot down over North Vietnam, and held as POW in four prisons over six years. His quilt presentation is Saturday, Nov. 27 at 12 p.m.
On Sunday at noon, Army Private First Class Joe Eskanazi, age 103, and Navy Ammunition Ordinance LeRoy Forehand, age 99, will be honored. Eskanazi survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 and Forehand served as Beachmaster after the battle of Saipan in the Pacific — the officer in charge of comings-and-goings after landing.
The weekend presentations will be put on by the American Legion, South Bay Quilters, Blue Star Mothers, Chapter 5; Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 53; and South Bay Friends of Veterans.
The American Legion post is located at 412 Camino Real. ER
